The Lions Club of New Britain was founded in 1922. The club meets every Tuesday at 12:15pm from September to June at the New Britain YMCA on 50 High Street. Please come and join us for lunch.
The club has been very active in the community since its beginning. Currently the club is involved in many projects in the community and around the state. The club conducts many fundraisers to support these projects. Please look under projects to see what we are up to and under fundraising projects to see how we raise our money.
Lions/NBGH Eye Clinic Dedicated
After more than two years of hard work the Eye Clinic of the Lions Club of New Britain was dedicated last month at New Britain General Hospital. Lion Otto Strobino and a dedicated committee has worked tirelessly to acquire the necessary space, the specialized equipment, financial and volunteer resources to provide the community with free eye examination and referrals services. Our Club will underwrite a portion of the ongoing costs of the Clinic from contributions received from our fundraising events. Members will be able to volunteer at the clinic. Additional information on the Clinic, hours, services, etc. will be available later this fall.
On Tuesday, August 15th, the New Britain Lions Club held the Grand Opening of the new Eye Clinic. To help kick of the clinic, the Connecticut Eye Bank presented a check to Lion Otto Strobino.

Community Projects
The current school year marks the 20th anniversary of our Safari program. The club sponsors field trips to the New Britain Library and the New Britain Youth Museum for every 3rd grade student in the New Britain school system, serving over 1,000 students per year. For some children, this is their first opportunity to visit these places and some children obtain their 1st library card while they are there.
The club also provides eye exams and eyeglasses to needy children in the school system.
During the fall and winter months, November through March, the club provides and serves dinner every third Sunday at the Salvation Army for anywhere from 70 to 120 people. The club also participates in bell ringing during the holiday season for the Salvation Army.
The club also supports many organizations in their efforts to help the sight impaired including the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation, Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and Lions Gallery for Low Vision (Low Vision Center). The most exciting project we have participated recently is fund a grant to the New Britain Museum of American Art to offer a tour of the museum for the blind and vision-impaired. The tour has tactile aids, such as plastic raised-line drawings of the paintings, several headsets with cassette players and their own copies of the cassette with narration, sound effects and music, to help people experience and appreciate some of the artwork in the museum.
